My mom recently found a book at the library written by a young woman who lived with a family in France for a time. The book is a collection of various aspects of the French life that she saw while there, including what she calls the "10 Item Wardrobe." No, that does not mean that the people in the book had ONLY 10 pieces of clothing. It's just a general rule: clean out everything but those items that you absolutely love. Anything else can go. That got me thinking: why do I have so many clothes? I don't even wear most of them! Anyone who sees me on a regular basis could tell you that I have certain clothes that I wear all the time and others that come out about once in a blue moon! There was a time in our history when the average woman would have as few as 2 or 3 dresses at a time! And yet now it's strange to have less than a dozen outfits and most seem to have way more than that! Why do we stuff our closets full of clothes we don't wear? Is it really necessary to have so many clothes? I tend to think not so I have decided to start a new project: a closet purge! It's time to go through - ruthlessly - which can be hard for me. But I think in the end it will be much better: I can have more room in my closet for the occasional find that just can't be passed up, and I won't have as hard a time deciding what to wear in the mornings. :) So, now I'm off to bake a batch of bread and then hit the closet! I'm praying I will REALLY be as ruthless as I'll need to be. :D
