Friday

Friday morning those of us still left had breakfast at the lodge. At that meal I found out what it’s like to sit with mostly staffers :D It was interesting listening to the conversation between Courtney, Killian, Will, Jonathan, and one of the alumni, Joseph. They decided on a new name for interns! :P

My empty cabin

Around 9:30 we loaded up into the various vans for our last ride to the Capitol. The staff had already left, taking Joseph and Luke with them to help staff the one day class.
We arrived at the Truman building and gathered in “our” room for the public speaking class with Hope and Killian.
The class was fun: Killian and Hope taught several things about enunciation, expression and movement. For enunciation we were given several tongue twisters, movement several people were given a subject to describe, and for expression we played charades. THAT was fun!:)
Finally we had lunch and wrote our speeches. After thinking for a while I FINALLY came up with a topic: curly hair! I know, not really interesting, but it was the only thing I could really think of that SOME people might be a bit interested in.
Sometime toward the middle of the speeches Killian stopped us and decided to have some fun, impromptu speeches. Calling a volunteer to the front he produced his dog tags and said that this volunteer (I think it was Michael, but I don’t know for sure) had to “sell” the dog tags for anything but dog tags. Several items were “sold,” including a nickel, a felt hat, a guitar pick and a book. Not all at the same time or with the same volunteer.
I was among the later students to give my speech and I could feel my hands shaking when I was up there: I DIDN’T like public speaking. I “guess” I can do alright now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be really nervous! :P

Finally the speeches were finished and Killian said he was going to do a narrative speech. But first Hope was going to have to do an impromptu speech (by popular demand). They actually both ended up doing a short speech, Killian did one on liberty and Hope on work. THEN came the narrative speech. The story had a protagonist, antagonist and a damsel in distress. The hero, Prince Johny was played by Jonathan, the villain, Bart by David and the damsel, Daisy, by Kjia.
Sometime around 4:00 the class was over and it was time to say good bye to everyone. :’( Pictures were taken, hands were shaken, and good byes were said, then some of us went over to the capitol. My group went to see how Nychelle, Nykole and Michael would get home (Cassia, our cabin mom, ended up takin them part of the way to meet their mom). We talked more, said more good byes, gave hugs and got a few more email addresses. The staff members headed out, and the 3 or 4 other groups still there got ready to leave. Jimmy went to get the suburban so Megan, Susanna, Abbie, Cathy, James, Krista and I went outside to wait for him. There we found the staff getting some more pictures. A few more hugs, pictures and good byes (yes, again) and they were off, Jimmy arrived with the suburban and we loaded up.

Girls from my cabin, without Cassia, unfortunately

Quite interesting, Hannah. I do want to know how that week changed your life for the better. What did you learn that you never want to forget? Are you the same as when you left or have you changed?
