Tuesday

Tuesday morning dawned cold and clear, though that didn’t stop any of us from walking around outside at the Capitol. After a good breakfast of biscuits and gravy we headed to the Truman building. After a time of morning worship we divided up into committees for our prayer walk. My committee headed over to the Capitol building (actually, everyone did, I think, but we were still in the separate groups) to pray with a representative friend of Sarah's.
The first field experience was with Jonathan S. The “first timers” in the Judiciary committee gathered around a table with him by the cafeteria and we talked about media. He gave us an article to read: the author was OBVIOUSLY a democrat! :P
After lunch at the cafeteria (by committee so we could work on the bills assigned to the “JUD” committee) we had our second field experience, with Hope this time. We headed across to the Capitol and each got a different bill before running back and learning a bit about them.
The legislature session that day was interesting, as usual. The clerk read a bill, the speaker asked if the writer would like to tell about the bill, and there was debate and voting on the different bills. I don’t remember which day it was, but someone had written a bill making English the official language of Missouri. Someone, I think one of the Lukes (there were 2 of them), gained the “well” to make an amendment, changing the language to pig latin. This brought on a question from Carolyn… in pig latin! I don’t know much pig latin, but I’ve heard enough to know that she asked if he knew the language: he didn’t. The amendment failed but the actual bill passed, making English the official language of Missouri.
That evening was spent in games, music and worship. It was then that I finally got around to finding out what those “clips” that guitarists use sometimes are... they're called capos! :P I also found that there were some good guitar players there, and decided that I need to practice mine more! :)
One game we played was “Do you love your neighbor?” It was a blast, despite the 6 broken chairs (they were fixed afterward, though).
It was time for rendezvous and we were waiting for Hope when someone (Nychelle, I think) had this great idea: we would hide when our rendezvous leader arrived. Then someone knocked on our door. All but Cassia and Susanna dove under the beds just before the door opened: it was Mrs. M.! :D Cassia had turned around with her back to the door because she was laughing so hard. I really wonder what went through Mrs. M.’s mind when we all came crawling out! But we seemed to have found an ally: a few minutes later when Mrs. M. and Cassia went outside, Mrs. M. slowed Hope down giving Cassia the chance to come warn us so we could hide! :)
